FAQ
Questions, answered plainly.
Including the ones where the answer is “not yet” or “we cannot tell you that from a document”.
What does Lab Readout actually do?
It reads a laboratory document you already have. It organizes the values the document reports, links each one to the page it appears on, explains what the terminology means, and names anything missing or unclear.
Does it test my product?
No. There is no laboratory here and nothing is measured. A readout describes a document that somebody else produced, and it is never a determination that a material is safe for human use.
What file formats can I upload?
PDF, JPEG, PNG and WebP, up to 20 MB per file. The limit is enforced by the storage bucket and checked again on the server.
Can I upload a photo of a printed report?
Yes. If the photograph is too unclear to read, you get a specific message saying so rather than a confident reading of something illegible.
What happens to my file?
It goes to private storage scoped to your account. Document text is sent to an external AI provider to produce the explanation. You can delete a document or request deletion of your account.
Do I need an account?
For analysis, yes, and it is free. Saving reports and returning to them requires somewhere to save them to. The Reading Kit needs no account at all.
Is analysis anonymous?
Not currently. Guest analysis is built but switched off, because the ownership, expiry and abuse controls that would make it safe are not finished. We would rather say that than accept your document first.
Why does a value say "needs review" instead of pass or fail?
Because the document did not give enough context to decide. Mismatched units, or a missing specification, mean a comparison cannot be made safely — so the readout says so rather than guessing.
What does a passed check mean?
That the named document check passed on the document supplied. It does not mean a product passed an independent safety assessment, and there is deliberately no overall score that could be read that way.
Can you verify the document against the issuing lab?
Only where a supported issuer adapter exists. Where none does, the status says "not performed" rather than implying a check happened. A lab website being unreachable never produces a fraud warning.
Does it cost anything?
There is a free allowance and no paid plan on sale today. We are not going to publish a price list for something you cannot buy yet.
Will I get marketing email?
Only if you tick the newsletter box and then confirm by clicking the link in a confirmation email. Creating an account does not subscribe you, and requesting the kit does not subscribe you.
